Dear Corpus Christi families,
First and foremost, I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe during this unprecedented time. The entire staff of Corpus Christi misses every single one of you and have been praying for all of you during this time. I keep imagining what the reunion will be like when we finally get to be together!
Since the mandated school closures have extended beyond the original March 30th date, Corpus Christi will be implementing e-learning instruction beginning Tuesday, March 31st until Thursday, April 9th. Bishop Jenky has requested all Diocesan Elementary and Secondary schools to extend e-learning for all students. All buildings will remain closed through Easter Monday, April 13th in observance of Holy Week, the Triduum, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. Please see the attached memo from the Office of Catholic Schools.
School Closure mandates mean:
Corpus Christi teachers are providing activities for students to have a continuity of learning. The Illinois State Board of Education is strongly encouraging school districts to provide instruction to students during these Act of God Days through whatever means possible.
What are expectations for E-Learning Days?
All students can expect communication from their teachers and their learning objectives. Teachers will have online office hours from 9:00-2:00 beginning next week. They can also be contacted outside of office hours; it just might take a little more time to get back to you. Please share with us when something is not working or if you are struggling with technology. If a school device isn’t working, please contact Adrienne Wilson email@example.com ASAP to set up a time to exchange/pick up devices.
Teachers will be sending activities/choices on a weekly basis. This way, families will be able to pace their child(ren)s learning at a rate that works best for them. I do encourage each child to check in with their teacher daily, whether through e-mail or a learning platform, but understand if this isn’t possible for all. Teachers will be sending out an e-mail with further instructions on Monday, March 30th at 5:00 pm.
I will also be doing “daily announcements” via the Corpus Christi Facebook page each morning to check-in with everyone, announce birthdays, and offer encouragement. Tune in at 9:00 each morning starting on the 31st!
***At this time, assignments will not negatively impact your child’s grade. If they are struggling with this type of learning it is ok and we will do everything to help them!***
Will state testing take place in April?
State testing is currently on hold due to the National Emergency. We are waiting on guidance from ISBE.
Are any extra-curricular events cancelled?
All events are cancelled until further notice.
What steps were taken to disinfect Corpus Christi?
We used EPA approved cleaners designed to kill the Covid-19 virus in all areas of the school. Every inch of the building was cleaned and extra time was taken to disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces. We also had our HVAC system turned off during the time of cleaning to eliminate the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Mid-Illinois Mechanical flushed the school system and changed all filters. The doors have been closed and no one can enter the building until this National Emergency is over.
What are the symptoms of Covid-19 and what should I do if my child or a family member experiences those symptoms?
Symptoms of the Coronavirus may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms include a fever of 100.4 or higher, a dry cough, and difficulty breathing. If you or a family member experience these symptoms, seek medical care. Call ahead before you visit your doctor’s office or emergency room. Tell your doctor about any recent travel and your symptoms. Report the matter to the local health department. Avoid contact with others.
